About Sports Card Manual
Sports Card Manual is a free, plain-English guide to collecting sports cards. Since 2022 we've been building the resource we wished existed when we started: one place that explains what's on a card, how grading works, how to buy smart, and where to find complete set checklists.
Why we built it
Getting into sports cards shouldn't mean piecing together answers from forums, videos and a dozen company websites. The information collectors need was scattered, often assumed you already knew the jargon, and full checklists were surprisingly hard to find by player or set. We built Sports Card Manual to bring it together: a structured guide for complete beginners, a refresher for collectors returning to the hobby, and a straightforward starting point for parents and gift buyers.
What you'll find here
- The Manual: ten chapters, from what's printed on a card to grading, buying and selling.
- Card Search: browse checklists by sport, set and player.
- Glossary: hobby terms explained simply.
- FAQ: quick answers to common questions.
Who's behind it
We're long-time collectors who actively buy and sell cards and have sent our own cards off for professional grading. That hands-on experience shapes what we write. The questions we answer are ones we had ourselves, and the mistakes we warn about are ones we've seen.
How we write and check our content
Everything in the Manual is written in-house and structured to take you from your first card to collecting with confidence. Where we draw on another source, such as a grading company's published standards, we credit it and link to it in the chapter. The hobby changes quickly, so if you spot something out of date or incorrect, let us know and we'll fix it.
Independence and disclosure
Sports Card Manual is independent. We aren't affiliated with or endorsed by any grading company (such as PSA, BGS, SGC or CGC) or any card manufacturer. We may earn a commission from some links and display ads, which help keep the site free.
